HKJ Partners with United Rentals

Trench Safety Training

June 13, 2019

United Rentals is the nation's largest provider of trench safety training programs. United Rentals and Harold K. Jordan & Co., Inc. created a partnership allowing United Rentals to train our staff. Their certified trainers have real trench experience and know the local, state, provincial and federal regulatory issues that affect your job site. These programs include excavation for competent person instruction, confined space entry training, safety and fall protection, site-specific regulatory compliance, and operator certifications for equipment.

Trenches have been utilized for centuries and have many distinct purposes such as, installing utilities and pipelines. The dangers of the use of trenches are trench collapses, cave-ins along with sidewall collapses. There are also some invisible dangers of trench contractions are asphyxiation inhalation of poisonous fumes and suffocation.

Glenn Turner, Environmental Health & Safety Director of HKJ stated, “Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has many rules to reduce the Trench collapses and risks associated with accidents on construction sites. For instance, as per OSHA regulations trenches deeper than five feet must be shored. Most of the Trench collapses happen in trenches less than 12 feet deep.”

HKJ construction staff continue to learn on and off the job site. June 13th presented a dedicated continuing education day with HKJ employees attending the Trench Safety Training class located at a United Rentals Trench Safety location.

Harold K. Jordan & Co., Inc. is proud of our employees and vendors for uniting together to keep “Safety” a priority.
